Now that school is back in session, you are likely seeing a lot more buses on the road and kids out biking or walking to school. With more congestion on the road, especially in the form of young children, we need to be more cautious. Here are a few back to school driving tips to help make sure everyone reaches their destination safely.
- Follow bus rules. Here in Ohio, it is against the law to pass a stopped school bus that is picking up or dropping off students. Doing so can result in fines up to $500 and a suspended license for up to a year.
- Drive slowly. When you are approaching school areas, drive slower than you normally would. Children may run out into the road without looking and you want to make sure you see them first.
- Share the road. Bicyclists have the same road rules as drivers; however, most children don’t know this. If you need to pass a cyclist, drive slowly and keep plenty of space between your car and their bike.
